Seeds & Varieties
Heirloom Seed
An old cultivar of a plant used for food that is grown and maintained by gardeners and farmers, particularly in isolated or ethnic minority communities.
Heirloom seeds are open-pollinated varieties that have been passed down through generations, typically for 50 years or more.
Unlike hybrid seeds (which are created by cross-pollinating two different varieties to achieve specific traits), heirlooms breed 'true to type', meaning the seeds saved from an heirloom plant will produce plants with the same characteristics year after year. They are prized for their exceptional flavor, historical significance, and genetic diversity.
